Customer Reviews
Customer rating is 5 of 5  Wilderness First Aid   2009-11-30
By W. Parker (ky)
This is the guide I was looking for. It has follow through for most of it and not so much a temporary fix until medical personel take over. I feel I got a good price considering the (as new) condition and it was out of print. I got it quite fast. Over all I give the seller and item 5 stars.
Customer rating is 4 of 5  An effective refresher tool!   2008-10-21
By Trevor Ycas (Boulder, CO United States)
This is a solid, easy-to-read refresher on all major wilderness emergencies. This is not a standalone medical training work. It is great as a refresher, just before heading out! Some illustrations and simplistic explanations of treatment options make this valuable for nearly anyone, regardless of their prior exposure to medical care knowledge.
Customer rating is 5 of 5  Your best backcontry companion!   2004-09-09
By K. Sommers
Even with some professional first aid training under my belt, this book gave me the confidence to trust in my abilities (in all types of situations). A must have on any backcountry trip!
Customer rating is 5 of 5  Fabulous!   2004-02-19
By Sunny (Brampton, Ontario, Canada)
I have read different books on the topic of wilderness first aid, but this book is the best ever. Although hands on training can not replace any book, this book is a course by it self and will definitly help you through any course on the matter of wilderness first aid.
If you are serious about wilderness survival, this book will be of great value to you.
The level of this book is easy to read and very easy to understand for anybody. It is very obvious that they know what they are talking about.
Customer rating is 5 of 5  Excellent intermediate/advanced resource   2000-03-21
I read this after completing the American Red Cross Standard First Aid and Adult CPR courses. This book assumes some basic first-aid knowledge and takes you to the next step with a deeper level of material, specifically focused on wilderness first aid techniques. Traditional first aid courses and materials like those taught by ARC assume an urban setting where paramedics and hospitals are minutes away. This book is geared toward the care of patients where such help is hours or days away. It covers effective assessment, treatment and evacuation techniques, as well as assessing urgency of evacuation. Included is information on the frequency of various kinds of illness/injuries in the wilderness based upon years of experience at NOLS. In addition to the standard subjects like shock, soft tissue injuries, broken bones, venomous bites & stings, etc., it discusses diagnosis of difficult abdominal symptoms, gender-specific illnesses/injuries, and stress on the rescuer. The illustrations are clear and the text is highly readable. I recommend this book to any serious outdoor enthusiast or leader.
