Amazon.com Product Description Canon's 12x36 Picture Stabilization II binoculars incorporate an optical picture stabilizer for shake-free viewing together with minimal eye fatigue. This technology was first developed for Canon video camcorders and is now available in many of Canon's binoculars. The system employs a Vari-Angle Prism, dual transparent plates, independent vertical and horizontal sensors, and a dedicated microprocessor to constantly change the prism to preserve a steady picture.

These 12x36 Picture Stabilization II binoculars aspect a water-resistant rubber coating for nonslip holding. If you get caught in light rain, you don't have to worry concerning the optics fogging up or getting ruined. These binoculars bring high magnification, long eye relief, and wide-field viewing. Controls for focusing and picture stabilization are centrally placed and are accessible by together hands.

Innovations to the objective lens assembly have resulted in the binoculars being approximately 26% lighter and 10% smaller than the previous 12x36 IS model they replace. And reductions in power consumption indicate a massive 270% enhance in battery life of up to four hours utilizing two AA-size alkaline batteries.

Picture Stabilization and Extra
Together with any high magnification binoculars, much users will experience frustrating picture shake. Unless fixed to a tripod, picture shake can render high magnification binoculars useless. Canon's IS technology is amazingly efficient at eliminating this problem and is widely used by the television industry together with Canon's professional broadcast excellence video recording equipment. A exclusive VAP (Vari-Angle Prism) corrective IS system sits between the objective lens group and the porro prism on every side of the binoculars. Inside thousandths of a second of the binoculars being moved from their optical axis by vibrations, a recognition system activates the IS mechanism. The VAP form alters to refract or 'bend' the light path by precisely the right amount, like so fully compensating for the vibration. It is this essentially immediate response this effectively suppresses picture shake. The binoculars' compact design is based on Canon's popular 10x30 IS model. Curved surfaces indicate simple handling, while nature lovers will appreciate the low-reflectance exterior and low gloss front covers, which help to avoid disturbing birds and other

What do the numbers indicate?
15x50? 8x25? The two numbers used to describe any pair of binoculars are their magnification — 8x, 12x, 15x and so on — and the diameter of their objective lenses — 25mm, 36mm, 50mm, and so on. The big the first number is, the big the object will be visible to be in the objective lens. For instance, if you use a 10x lens and look at an object this is 100 yards away, it appears to be the same size as an object placed just 10 yards away. The second number, the size of the objective lens, is important for the reason that the big the objective lens, the extra light it can admit for brighter, extra detailed pictures, and the better suited they will be for lowlight situations.

Customer rating is 5 of 5  Expensive, but awesome   2010-07-12

Great binoculars. We live on a lake and are always checking out ships, birds, etc. These were a lot of money but well worth the investment.
Customer rating is 4 of 5  Unbiased Assessment   2010-05-10
By Michael F. Lamb (LaGrande, OR.)
I do a lot of bird watching and am at age 71, where some unsteadiness in holding binoculars is present. I bought these 12 x 36 IS II binoculars to help offset that difficulty. Purchase, shipping and receival went very smoothly. I was taken back by the bulk of these glasses, but soon had them in good working order. Instructions were clear. Focusing is easily accomplished and the clarity is good, edge to edge. I did find that setting the spacing for the eyepieces was quite different from regular binoculars, but practice gradually improved my ease of doing that. You cannot easily change the spacing while holding the binoculars up to your eyes, so be aware of that difference. Image Stabilisation takes effect about 1 second after activating the button and then, with a slight image shift, transitions into a rock solid image about one second later. Given these small differences, the binoculars perform very well and they are now my favorite choice for birding. Eyepiece relief is good, but as with other reviews, I too would have appreciated a simple cover for the objective lenses. I really appreciate the use of easily obtained and relatively inexpensive AA batteries! Ruggedized coating is excellent.
First rate product, also super for astronomy, but you might wish to consider the slightly smaller 10 X 30 IS II units to reduce weight/bulk.
Customer rating is 5 of 5  Light, clear, and bright!   2010-04-15
By Luan C. Do (Vienna, VA United States)
I have an old Canon 8x32WP and love the optics. I recently took the plunge to get the 12x36 IS II for bird watching and astronomy. Both binculars are about the same weight and size, although the magnification powers are different (8x vs 12x). The 12x is a tad lighter, actually. The adjectives listed in the title are fitting for the 12x36 IS II. It's noticeably brighter than the Canon 8x32wp. The 12x36 IS II costs a lot of money but it's worth it, in my opinion.

I purchased these for my husband because he likes to photograph water fowl and he loves the binoculars. Shipping was timely and I am very pleased with the product. Good choice to purchase for yourself or a gift.
Customer rating is 2 of 5  All About Electronic (A.A.E} Amazon vendor.   2009-12-29
By Marion L. King, Jr.
I cannot give a review of the Canon 12x36 Stabilization II Binoculars is because the Pair ordered in late November for a Christmas present came without a Warranty Card, and at best gray market merchandise. I returned then to A.A.E. because after numerous calls they would not furnish the Canon/USA warranty. Then even with a return Return Authorization Number A.A.E played the "We didn't get it game". It took a Federal Express Investigator to smoke the binocular out. Today I may still be out some $600.00, as the case is still pending with Discover Card.
The good news is bought a pair of Steiner Binoculars for a little more from Optics Planet, Inc with a full 30 year warranty and a factory new product.

To date I no of no action take by Amazon to help me (their customer) or any action take against their unscrupulous 3rd party vendor.

Today you pay for everything you get, but don't get what you pay for.
